HIVE - Health in a Virtual Environment
HIVE (Health in a Virtual Environment) is Western Australia's first inpatient remote monitoring service.
Clinicians within the HIVE Command Centre at Royal Perth Hospital can assess the conditions of our most vulnerable patients using a 24/7 remote monitoring.
The service uses artificial intelligence to detect the earliest signs of clinical deterioration. When alerted, HIVE clinicians will collaborate with staff on the ward using a two-way audio-visual system to deliver effective and immediate care.
The HIVE team monitors beds within RPH’s Trauma Unit and will expand this to wards across both RPH and Armadale Hospital.
HIVE represents a significant milestone for digital healthcare in Western Australia. Being at the forefront of innovation is a key goal and we see HIVE as an exciting launchpad for the kind of trailblazing care we strive to provide on a daily basis.
What is HIVE?
HIVE is a service that assists your ward doctors and nurses, to continuously track your health. A team of doctors and nurses based in the Command Centre at Royal Perth Hospital, will be able to view your vital signs, such as heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels remotely, and will notify your clinicians if any changes occur.
Why have I been admitted to HIVE?
You have been admitted to HIVE because your doctor and nursing team believes your health condition requires closer observation and would benefit from receiving extra support and monitoring
How will HIVE help me?
You will be attached to medical monitors that tell the clinicians about your health. The HIVE team will continuously monitor your health information 24/7 and alert your nurse or doctors if any issues are detected. This allows your nurses and doctors to provide better care to you.
Can I talk to, and see the staff in HIVE?
Yes. Your room is fitted with equipment that will allow the HIVE nurses and doctors to see and talk with you, your family and the health team on your ward. The camera will only be turned on if your team schedules a discussion with the HIVE or if the HIVE team detects an issue with your health. A ringtone will sound to notify you when the camera turns on. At all other times the camera is turned off. No audio or video is ever recorded and saved.
This HIVE patient admission video provides more information about how the service works and how it will improve the care you receive at Royal Perth Hospital.
