Geriatric Medicine
Royal Perth Hospital provides a clinical geriatric service for the frail elderly, particularly those with chronic disease.
We care for acutely ill elderly patients and provide a consultation service to other RPH departments on aged care matters.
Our physicians also care for patients at Bentley Health Service and St John of God Hospital in Mount Lawley (Royal Perth Hospital Inner City Geriatric Service).
Our services include:
- Assessment and restorative units
- Acute geriatric medicine and consulting services geriatric day therapy
- Speciality clinics for memory, continence and falls
- Community outreach
- A geriatric presence in Emergency.

RPH offers a telephone hotline for GPs to call for triaging advice regarding patients aged 65 years and over, and Aboriginal patients aged 50 years and over who live or stay in the Royal Perth Hospital metropolitan or rural catchment area.
Available Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm, GPs can telephone the RPH switchboard on 9224 2244 and ask to be put through to the RPH Acute Geriatrics GP Hotline.
Out of business hours, the switchboard will continue to direct GP calls for urgent advice to the on-call Geriatrics consultant.
