This week, the Royal Perth Hospital P.A.R.T.Y. Program welcomed their 14,000th student, from Perth Modern School.
The highly successful Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth (P.A.R.T.Y.) Program started at RPH in 2006.
Once a week during the school year, a group of students aged 14 to 18 visit the hospital to learn about traumatic injury. The P.A.R.T.Y. Program provides useful, relevant information to young people to help them recognise potential injury-causing situations and make informed prevention-oriented choices. It is also designed to help them adopt behaviours and actions that minimise risk.
In order to completely involve the students in the experience of injury and recovery, the group is taken through the common course of injury and treatment of someone involved in a trauma, often due to risk-taking behaviours. The program includes visits with the Emergency Department, the Intensive Care Unit and Trauma Wards.
